About Howie

Photo-4I was born in Lubbock, Texas, and I lived there most of my life until moving to Dallas in September, 2000.  For part of my early childhood, I also lived in Modesto, California during the brief period that my parents were separated.  In 1977, my parents reunited, and we all moved back to Lubbock where I spent the rest of my childhood, and teenage years.  After graduating high school, and spending a few years at Texas Tech University, I enlisted in the Navy.  I served three and a half years driving and navigating submarines.  After being discharged, I returned to Lubbock.  After working at AT&T Wireless as a call center manager, I decided that Lubbock was just not for me anymore, so I moved to Dallas where I have lived for almost 10 years.

I work in Dallas as an Apple Consultant with Kinetic Technology Group.  Before coming onboard with Kinetic, I worked for Digital Criterion Enterprises, Inc., which is based out of New York.  I opened their office here in Dallas, and built up the client base here before leaving in November, 2009.  Before Digital Criterion, I worked for Apple at the Apple store at Willow Bend in Plano, Texas.  There, I worked as a Mac Genius, and also a Mac Specialist selling computers, and software.  I loved working for Apple, but the politics, and strict procedures that I had to follow in a retail environment eventually became more that I was willing to tolerate.  I have also worked for CompUSA corporate headquarters, and also a commercial printing company called IntegraColor in Mesquite, Texas.  Working for Apple, CompUSA, and IntegraColor provided me with extremely valuable training and experience that helps me be successful as a consultant.  If you know anyone who needs great I.T. services for a small or medium business, let me know.  I also work with home customers, but I don’t specifically market to them.

I dabble with a lot of things.  Most notably, I dabble a lot with graphic design.  When I worked for CompUSA supporting the advertising department, I had a chance to learn a lot about Photoshop from the designers who worked there.  Before working at CompUSA, I had never actually seen Photoshop, so having to support it made me learn it very fast.  Eventually, I taught myself the basics of creating layers, using effects, and creating objects.  I like to create “photo realistic” graphics.  I find that kind of design to be the most challenging.  I have created a lot of iPhone graphics for Digital Criterion which eventually made it into iPhone applications on Apple’s app store on iTunes.  Other interests that I have are politics, history, science, and technology.  I like to think that I look at the world in a very logical, and analytical way.  I don’t allow my emotions to determine what I believe.  I am a natural skeptic.  I don’t always believe everything that I hear no matter what its source.  I will relentlessly pursue the truth no matter how hard that quest becomes.  I think that having these characteristics allows me to see the world as it really is without delusion or naiveté.
